'Picasa' is a blend of the name of Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, the phrase mi casa (Spanish for 'my house') and 'pic' for pictures. Picasa was a cross-platform image organizer and image viewer for organizing and editing digital photos, integrated with a now defunct photo-sharing website, originally created by a company named Lifescape (which at that time was incubated by Idealab) in 2002.

Picasa, aside from being renowned the world over for its capability to sort your image files, can also edit pictures using basic tools such as red eye reduction, filters, cropping, sharpness and color enhancement, and text captions. Picasa is a free download from Google and the software also includes access to an integrated photo-sharing website, similar to Flickr, via Google Accounts, and onling photo printing services. It was originally created by a developer called Lifescape and its famous name is patterned after the celebrated painter Picasso and the Spanish “mi casa”, which means “my house”.

Picasa is an image viewing and image editing software developed and published by Google since 2004, after its acquisition of the rights to the software.
